After two high profile encounters at the home of football Loftus Road, the 2018 fixture was played at the more meagre setting of Wormwood Scrubs. The Mancs were desperate not to let the Lats take a 2 game lead in the series, something that neither side had yet managed in the history of the competition.

After the glamour ties at Loftus Road, the Lats struggled for players in the squad with numerous regulars unavailable for the game. Alex Picton was on hand to make a timely debut to make up the numbers. For the Mancs, there were no such issues.

The conditions proved difficult for both sides as the hard pitch and strong wind meant that chances were few and far between. The Lats were struggling for cutting edge up front, though the defence was holding firm to keep the Mancs at bay. However, as with many previous encounters, penalty drama proved pivotal. Mikkelsen was adjudged to have brought down Ponsforda and he duly dusted himself off to step up and convert to give the Mancs the lead.

The Lats desperately tried to find a way back into the game but had little luck in breaking down a resolute Mancs defence. Ultimately, they were undone on the counter attack as Worley raced clear to score and put the result beyond doubt at 2-0.

A thoroughly deserved victory for the Mancs saw them level the series once again at 4-4 with all to play for in the 2019 edition.
